To construct the Ballistic Trainers™, GORUCK took everything that works (and nothing that doesn’t) about existing functional fitness shoes and mixed it with the proven science of proper underfoot support. The forefoot is made using an engineered warp-knit technology that delivers a seamless one-piece vamp and toe cap while giving areas of fortified strength and other areas of breathability and flexibility. Made from two panels of 1680D CORDURA® Ballistic Nylon, the lace area, midfoot, and heel offer the most rigid Special Forces grade abrasion resistance against the pressures of rope climbs.
The supportive, injection-molded heel counter anchors your foot and stabilizes your heel when you’re doing dynamic, load-bearing exercises. The shoe allows your feet to breathe because it has a wide toe box that decreases the friction if your feet rub against the insides of your shoe. The custom-made PU foam insert supports the three arches of the foot—the medial longitudinal arch, the lateral longitudinal arch, and the anterior transverse arch. The 8mm heel-to-toe drop in the Ballistic Trainers™ forms the best biomechanical advantage when lifting heavy loads or moving more than 400 meters.
The outsole of the Ballistic Trainer is composed of three different rubber compounds. The forefoot rubber is formulated for improved grip, while the heel area is thick and won’t wear down after miles of running or rucking. The midfoot is developed from a rock climbing compound and hardened for exceptional abrasion resistance — ideal for rope climbs. The two different types of EVA come together in a smooth gradient from forefoot to heel, while the high rebound, high flexibility EVA in the forefoot delivers cushion and support for explosive movement. The firm, stable EVA in the heel provides a solid platform to keep you grounded when lifting or squatting.
