Nike Romaleos 4 Olympic Weightlifting Shoe Review – Our Review

To test this product, we got hands-on and in-depth.

Here’s what we found:

The Romaleos 4 is a narrow, pointy shoe – just like the earlier version, the Metcon 3 XD. It is an Oly lifter, so it has a sky-high heel raise at 20mm to allow a deep squat position while minimizing the ankle flexibility needed.

Nike Romaleos 4 - Black/Orange Stacked
Nike has stepped up the style for the Nike Romaleos 4. This Black/Orange colorway looks sharp.
The insole, midsole, and heel are rock solid. The cloth upper is dense and tightly stitched. It is not soft and flexible like a running shoe or cross trainer to give you a sense of stability.
Nike Romaleos 4 - Black/Orange
New with the Romaleos 4 is having 2 smaller midfoot straps. This lets you really fine tune the fit.
The super-solid heel is still made from plastic but is now clear and formed in an organic-looking design. There’s still plenty of contact area because the plastic base flares out in the heel and forefoot, even if there is a hollowed-out center section.

I like what they’ve done with the clear plastic heel/midsole this year – nice design touch. The outsole has grippy rubber too.

Nike Romaleos 4 New Color – Overview

The Romaleos 4 is the fourth release of Nike’s most popular weightlifting shoes. It is an impressive Olympic weightlifting shoe developed for efficient power transfer, absolute stability, and a lockdown fit. This shoe is an excellent choice for those looking for a robust, aesthetically attractive weightlifting shoe.

This revamped design highlights a supportive midsole and a wide, flat outsole, with adjustable straps over the laces at the midfoot to secure the foot during high-intensity workouts. The significant heel-to-toe drop decreases the ankle flexion needed at the bottom of a lift.

The heel enables greater explosiveness off the ground when merged with the stiff midsole. The wide heel of the Romaleos 4 also forms a more stable foundation for heavy lifts, while the durable rubber treads provide valuable traction.
